A Photo Diary of 24-hours in the PNW

Seattle is an absolutely beautiful place, just waiting to be photographed – all of the Pacific Northwest, actually, is stunning. It’s unfortunate that the most common google queries about the city are negative – sure, there are places you might want to avoid at certain hours (although, that’s true for a lot of larger cities). However, for anyone that has stepped foot in the city, you’re usually greeted by some of the most picturesque scenery.

On my last visit to Seattle, I was only in town for a brief venture (around 24-hours in total). As the flight touched down and we settled in, I was met with vibrant hues, fluffy clouds, and long stretches of blue overhead.

Within those next 24-hours, I would see the sky change significantly throughout the day, shedding different (but lovely) light over the city.

Since I was only in Seattle for a brief layover on my journey, I stayed near the waterfront. This picture of Seattle waking up in the early morning light has become one of my favorites from the trip. There was this dreamy glow to everything – and with a cup of coffee in hand (and a full belly thanks to Pike’s Place) and the crisp air to greet me, this captured the feeling of the day.

From there, I strolled along the waterfront, taking in views of Olympic Sculpture Park (with vibrant greens and brilliant sunshine) to the towers of steam and locomotive lines on Alaskan Way. I suppose part of the beauty comes with resting in a liminal space – train tracks with no train and sidewalk signs with mist rising over the buildings.

Closer to the Space Needle, the sun once again was shining brightly. I know I’ve used this word multiple times already, but it truly was VIBRANT. By now, the city was fully awake and bustling.

This last photo is not in Seattle – I actually stopped over for a quick visit at a friend’s on my way to another destination. While on the road, I absolutely loved my view of Mt. Rainier (it’s beautiful) – so here it is!

And that’s that! There are a ton of photos on my camera roll still to be edited, so perhaps we’ll see another round of Seattle photos and adventures. What are your favorite places in this photographic PNW destination?
