San Diego will always hold a special place in my heart. With beautiful (free) beaches, delicious food, and several historic landmarks, there is much to love about this coastal California city.
Since I lived there for a few years, friends and family like to ask me what to do in San Diego. So, today I thought I’d share a few of my favorite places to explore. Happy Adventuring!
Torrey Pines
Address: 12600 N. Torrey Pines Road San Diego, CA 92037
Parking: Included in entry Cost – limited free parking for beach outside of park
Entry Cost: $15-25 per car
Ideal For: Nature enthusiasts, light hiking

Torrey Pines is a breathtaking coastal reserve nestled in between the Del Mar and La Jolla neighborhoods. Located on the edge of Point Loma, an upscale neighborhood in San Diego, Sunset Cliffs is a natural beauty. With miles of sea bluffs and crashing waves, the cliffs are the perfect place to relax and picnic while watching the sunset. And with its free price tag, it’s a must-visit. For the quintessential San Diego experience, I recommend grabbing a burrito (or in-n-out) and enjoying a seaside picnic at sunset!

Out of everything on this list, I’ve probably spent the most time in Old Town. There is just so much to do and see in this small section of San Diego!
With original adobe buildings that date back to the 19th century, Old Town State Park offers a glimpse into the life and culture of early San Diego. Visitors can explore museums, authentic Mexican restaurants, and diverse shops offering unique, handmade gifts. The park also hosts various cultural events and living history demonstrations, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the traditions and customs of early San Diego. With its lively atmosphere, Old Town San Diego State Historic Park is a captivating destination for history enthusiasts and curious travelers alike.
