While driving down the highway of West Maui, we came upon a small outdoor market just off the road in Lahaina/Olowalu. After grabbing some fruit, we walked over to Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie shop for a bit of snack before we continued on our way. Now, Leoda’s is definitely not a secret – featured in Condé Nast, Goop, and the Food Network, this pie place has a well-known reputation.

My travel plans usually consist of food/bakeries, walking around, and taking photos – so it’s not a surprise that Leoda’s is one of my favorite memories from Maui. Delicious pies, chickens running around, and the jungle just beyond the clearing off the road. What’s there not to love? And like some of the best places, I was too busy enjoying the atmosphere to snap enough photos – my apologies in advance!

If you’ll be in the area, you should definitely consider stopping by – but first read on for a few tips before visiting Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop.

What Makes Leoda’s Special

Started in 2011 by Na Hoaloha Ekolu – aka “Three Friends” Michael Moore, Tim Moore and Robert Aguiar – Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop quickly became a local and tourist favorite. And while Ledoa’s gives off the feel of a small-town, community mom & pop joint, Na Hoaloha Ekolu had already earned a reputation for starting Old Lahaina Luau and Star Noodle.

Focusing on utilizing sustainable, locally-sourced ingredients, Leoda’s aims to be a community hub where all feel the warm, welcoming hospitality the moment they enter. And judging by the 4.5 star average with nearly 4,000 reviews on yelp, many people seem to feel just that.

Tips for Parking and Enjoying Leoda’s

Leoda’s shares a parking lot with the other businesses. However, the Olowalu Farmers Market and food trucks tend to draw a decently-sized crowd. I recommend first checking the parking near Leoda’s and then driving down toward the market to look for a spot. Just be patient – spots do open up!

When to Visit Leoda’s

It’s a popular place – so as you might expect, this pie shop is also boasting a long line and happy (well-fed) crowd. That being said, the best time to visit Leoda’s to beat the rush is right around opening or closer to closing. However, if you do decide to stop by at the end of the day, you run the risk of having limited options (they sell-out of all the favorites!).

Another way to maximize your time is to order ahead so your food is available for pick-up (keep in mind that the minimum price is $15 for online orders).

What to Order at Leoda’s

Sweet

Prices: $10

Looking through the menu now, it does seem like it has been trimmed down a bit after re-opening. Right now, my personal favorite is the Olowalu lime pie, but you honestly can’t go wrong! The Banana Cream Pie and Chocolate Mac Nut Pie are also amazing (and best-sellers).

Savory

Prices: $11-$21

While the pies are Leoda’s most famous items on the menu, there are a few well-loved savory options. The Ahi Sandwich and Reuben are some of the most-popular sandwiches they offer, getting rave reviews from customers online. On the cheaper end, the Upcountry hot dog is also delicious, running at $11.

You can’t go wrong at Leoda’s (even writing about it right now makes me want a pie!). Whether you need a lime pie or sandwich to refuel while out on the road, Leoda’s has it all. With a friendly vibe, delicious ingredients, and beautiful scenery in the area of Olowalu, this pie shop is a must-visit. Have you been to Leoda’s? What’s your favorite thing on the menu?

    1. I know! The menu has (understandably) decreased, but I’m looking forward to seeing the savory pies on the menu again 🙂
